The development includes a building for flight operations and pilot training. Another specialised facility will support air traffic control simulation and the teaching of airport operations management. Students are therefore expected to gain access to practical training in an environment designed to replicate real operational situations.
The project also includes a hangar for the aircraft support unit at Doha International Airport. This will connect the teaching facilities with the academy’s technical and operational requirements. The hangar is intended to support practical preparation and activities that cannot be taught realistically in a conventional classroom.
The changes also cover student accommodation. Residential buildings are to be expanded and their equipment modernised. A new master plan is being prepared for the entire site to make better use of the available space and improve movement between the different parts of the campus for students, trainees and employees.
Ashghal says the project follows the Global Sustainability Assessment System, known as GSAS. Measures focus on more efficient use of energy and water, indoor environmental quality, more sustainable materials and smart solutions for building operations. These steps are also expected to reduce long term operating demands.
Ashghal links the project to the development of qualified Qatari professionals for the aviation sector. The new buildings are intended to create an integrated environment for teaching, practical training, simulation and operational support for the academy.
The modernisation covers design and construction within the existing campus. Alongside specialised teaching facilities, the hangar and student accommodation, the project includes a shared master plan connecting the uses of the site’s individual areas.
