Katara Art to Open Two Exhibitions in September

Fractures of the Future will feature works by four artists: Samah Azzam, Ahmed Al Jufairi, Moza Al Kuwari and Fatima Mohammed. The exhibition considers how artists imagine different possible futures and how current social, economic and environmental challenges shape their work.

Each artist uses a distinct approach. The programme brings together science fiction, systems thinking, oral history and experimentation with materials. Their shared aim is not to predict a single future, but to use art to examine the present and propose several contrasting scenarios.

The themes include the climate crisis and land use. The works respond to the pressures created by these issues and explore possibilities for more fundamental change. The group exhibition therefore connects imagination with specific questions that affect everyday life and the region’s long term development.

The second exhibition is visual artist Hessa Al Kuwari’s first solo presentation. It focuses on the living room as a setting for everyday rituals, relationships and memory. Paintings, photographs and installations work with furniture, clothing, patterns and objects that usually receive little attention.

By moving familiar things into a gallery, the artist changes their meaning. An ordinary room becomes a place for observing what a space can remember and how personal experience is stored in objects and repeated activities. The exhibition offers an intimate counterpart to the broad questions raised by the group project.

Both exhibitions will be open over the same period, from 2 September to 7 October, at Katara Art Center. During one visit, audiences can compare a collective view of the future with a personal archaeology of domestic space.
